House Freedom Caucus Unveils Emergency Border Resolution

The House Freedom Caucus has introduced the Emergency Border Control Resolution, a budget measure designed to initiate the reconciliation process in the House. The resolution is part of a two-step plan outlined in the caucus’s "218 Plan," a plan to secure funding for border security, military rebuilding, and immigration enforcement under the Trump administration.

The budget resolution proposes $200 billion in new funding to help President Donald Trump (R) secure the southern border, rebuild the military, and end what Republicans call the Biden administration’s immigration crisis. To offset the spending, the plan calls for $486 billion in cuts to what the House Freedom Caucus calls the failed Biden policies and wasteful spending, resulting in $286 billion in deficit reduction over the next decade.

The resolution also calls for raising the debt ceiling by $4 trillion, which the caucus says is an effort to provide financial market stability while preventing Democrats from using it as leverage against the president.

The caucus believes it has the necessary support in 218 Republican votes to pass the resolution.

In a statement, Maryland Rep. Andy Harris (R), the Chairman of the House Freedom Caucus, emphasized the urgency of the plan.

"President Trump was elected with a mandate to close the Southern Border, stop the flood of illegal aliens, begin repatriations of those here illegally, and restore accountability to our government," he said, adding that "the House Freedom Caucus has always believed that Congress must rapidly give the President the funds he needs to do this." "Given the current delay in the House on moving a comprehensive reconciliation bill, moving a smaller targeted bill now makes the most sense to deliver a win for the President and the American people.”

Texas Rep. Michael Cloud (R) echoed in his remarks, sharing his support for the resolution on social media.

“The American people voted for Donald Trump to see action – not for Congress to sit on its hands while our short window to pass his America-First agenda closes," he wrote on X.

House Republicans are expected to mobilize behind the resolution, but Democrats are likely to oppose the plan. The resolution’s passage would mark a significant step toward implementing President Trump’s immigration and border security agenda.
