Luttrell Highlights, Introduces Strong Human Trafficking Bill

Texas Rep. Marcus Luttrell (R) introduced the Stop Human Trafficking of Unaccompanied Migrant Children Act, which would establish stricter vetting standards for sponsors of migrant children. As the Trump Administration focuses on immigration reform, the bill is poised to receive significant support.

The bill was introduced during the Biden Administration, and Rep. Luttrell been vocal regarding his concerns over the Biden Administrations handling of unaccompanied minors, citing reports that over over 300,000 children have gone missing after crossing the border.

In a statement regarding his human trafficking bill, Rep. Luttrell one again criticized the Biden administration’s border policies, arguing that they have left vulnerable children at risk of abuse, trafficking, and exploitation.

“Over 300,000 unaccompanied migrant children effectively disappeared under the Biden administration, leaving them vulnerable to trafficking, abuse, and exploitation,” he stated. “Instead of ensuring their safety, these children are released with no follow-up, falling into the hands of cartels and criminals," he added.

To make sure that unaccompanied minors are safe, Rep. Luttrell is calling for the Department of Health and Human Services to "implement thorough vetting to ensure these children are placed with responsible adults – not predators." "President Biden’s border policies failed everyone, and this legislation will support the Trump administration’s efforts to course correct the disaster we were left with.”

On X, the Texas Congressman redirected attention to his bill, highlighting that it would "establish proper vetting standards before releasing an unaccompanied child to a sponsor."

The bill seeks to address gaps in the current system, ensuring that thorough background checks are conducted before a child is placed with a sponsor. Critics of the current policies argue that a lack of oversight has allowed traffickers and criminal organizations to exploit migrant children, with many disappearing after being released from government custody.

Rep. Luttrell recently introduced the CARTEL Act, which ensures that U.S. Customs and Border Protection reveal the identities of individuals that are connected to dangerous cartel organizations.
