One day after speaking at the House DOGE press conference, Texas Rep. Beth Van Duyne (R) is calling for sweeping government reforms in what she dubs the “Golden Age of DOGE.” The era is marked by the Department of Government Efficiency’s (DOGE) aggressive crackdown on wasteful federal spending under the Trump administration.
In a recent op-ed for The Washington Reporter, Rep. Van Duyne highlighted her concerns over the national debt, which now exceeds $36 trillion. She attributes the skyrocketing debt to “poor decision-making, institutional corruption, and weak-willed politicians.” She praised DOGE’s efforts in exposing spending she considers unnecessary, which she argues includes millions allocated for DEI initiatives overseas and various cultural projects unrelated to American taxpayers.

“DOGE has not even begun to focus on the largest federal programs and agencies, where they will soon reveal the kind of waste, fraud, and abuse that everyone in America knows exists,” Rep. Van Duyne wrote.
Rep. Van Duyne is seeking to institutionalize spending cuts through her reintroduced Government Offices Realignment and Closure (GORAC) Act. The bill aims to establish a recurring process for identifying and eliminating redundant or inefficient federal programs, with savings exclusively allocated to reducing national debt. The bill would mandate the Government Accountability Office to work with third-party auditors every decade to assess inefficiencies, with Congress considering their recommendations under fast-tracked procedures.
She argues that the current moment provides a rare opportunity for structural change. “We talk about a ‘Golden Age’ because we are living in a moment where the resolve of the Executive Branch matches the will of the American people,” she stated, warning that without lasting reforms, future administrations may return to excessive spending.
