State Rep. Brian Harrison (R) has issued a sharp warning about Texas’ political trajectory, arguing that Democrats have gained too much control over the Texas House and that the Lone Star State is not as “free” as it should be. To counter this, he has introduced the “Texas First Liberty Agenda”, a set of proposals under the slogan “Make Texas, Texas Again.”

“Texas is known for leading in freedom and liberty, but for too long we have been simply coasting on our ‘small government’ reputation,” state Rep. Harrison stated in announcing the agenda. He warned that rising property taxes, excessive government debt, and an unchecked regulatory state have made Texas more myth than reality when it comes to conservative governance.

State Rep. Harrison's includes eliminating property taxes by establishing a structured phase-out and requiring voter approval for any tax hikes. It also proposes slashing the state budget by at least 15%, capping bureaucrat salaries, and ending corporate welfare.

Regarding education, he calls for school choice policies, cracking down on what he calls “liberal indoctrination” in public schools, and prohibiting taxpayer-funded electioneering by Independent School Districts (ISDs).

On immigration, he proposes making Texas less dependent on federal action by creating a Border Protection Unit Act for a permanent security solution. He also aims to fight the regulatory state by reducing occupational licensing requirements, term-limiting bureaucrats, and slashing executive agency power.

His agenda takes a strong stance against federal overreach, seeking to cut Texas’ reliance on federal funds and push back against federal regulations. His plan includes protecting Texas’ energy grid by shifting away from subsidized renewables and increasing reliance on oil, natural gas, and nuclear power.

The proposal also includes banning taxpayer-funded lobbying, strengthening election integrity, restricting warrantless data collection, and implementing conservative criminal justice reforms. Additionally, it aims to end DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) programs and other race-based policies in government.
