Texas Representative James Frank Champions Parental Choice in Support of HB 2

During a committee meeting on public education, Texas House Representative James Frank (R) gave a speech advocating for the House Bill 2, a proposal that aims to expand school choice across the state. This follows a growing amount of outrage by parents and teachers against both HB 2 and Senate Bill 2, key legislation related to school choice in Texas.

Rep. Frank began by asserting that the passing of HB 2 will not be an attack on public schools.

“We Love public schools, I’m sorry that this has become an issue of public-school verse, it’s not. We can do both, we can fund both, and we must.” Started Frank.

Rep. Frank’s speech emphasized a central part of the bill, increasing parental control over education. He encouraged parents to understand that HB 2 would increase their ability to choose where their children receive their education, allowing them to make decisions that they believe are in their child’s best interests.

““If you don’t have that ability to choose where your kid goes to school, you do not feel like you are in charge of your education,” began Frank, “This allows parents, even those who are not as fortunate, to have those kinds of options”

After the committee hearing, Governor Greg Abbott (R), a strong supporter of the School choice bills, took to X (formerly Twitter) to express his gratitude toward Rep. Frank for his support on the issue.

“This session, we must empower Texas Parents to have the ability to choose where their kids go to school” wrote Abbott. “@RepJamesFrank continues to fight for Texas parents and students. Thanks for all your hard work.”

As Rep. James Frank advocates for school choice through HB 2 in Texas, a broader trend is emerging with a focus on parental rights and protecting children in various aspects of their lives. In Utah, the state legislature passed a groundbreaking measure that requires app stores to obtain parental approval before teens can download apps. This Bill passed with overwhelming bipartisan support and lawmakers from other states, including Representative Chip Roy (R) from Texas, has echoed similar concerns.

The growing national conversation about parental control over children’s education and online safety reflects a broader push for legislation that seeks to empower parents and safeguard children.
