Republican Effort Seeks to Impeach Judge James Boasberg

President Donald Trump (R) called for the impeachment of Judge James Boasberg, and a Republican lawmaker has answered. Texas Rep. Brandon Gill (R) has introduced articles of impeachment against Judge Boasberg, claiming that the judge “is guilty of high crimes and misdemeanors.”

Following the judge’s decision to temporarily halt the Trump Administration’s deportation of alleged Venezuelan gang members under the Alien Enemies Act of 1798, President Trump called for the impeachment of Judge Boasberg. In a post on Truth Social, President Trump referred to Judge Boasberg as a "Radical left Lunatic," writing, "This judge, like many of the Crooked Judges I am forced to appear before, should be IMPEACHED!!!"

The controversy arose after Judge Boasberg issued a 14-day restraining order blocking the administration's use of the Alien Enemies Act to deport members of the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua, which President Trump designated as a terrorist organization in January.

The administration had initiated deportation flights targeting alleged gang members, citing the act as legal authority.

In response to Judge Boasberg's ruling, Rep. Gill announced on social media that he had filed articles of impeachment against the judge. Gill accused Boasberg of "abusing his power" and interfering with the president's constitutional authority to ensure national security. In a statement given to Fox News Digital, Rep. Gill stated, "For the past several weeks, we've seen several rogue activist judges try to impede the president from exercising, not only the mandate voters gave him, but his democratic and constitutional authority to keep the American people safe."

Chief Justice John Roberts responded to President Trump's impeachment call by emphasizing that impeachment is not an appropriate response to disagreements over judicial decisions. Justice Roberts highlighted the importance of appellate review as the proper mechanism for addressing such disputes, cautioning that attempts to intimidate judges threaten judicial independence.
