Governor Greg Abbott (R) has directed the Texas Rangers to launch an investigation into the East Plano Islamic Center (EPIC) and its affiliated entities for potential criminal activities. The order comes as part of a broader effort by Texas to scrutinize the organization’s operations across multiple fronts.
“Texas is a law-and-order state, and those scheming to evade law enforcement scrutiny must know justice is awaiting them,” Governor Abbott said in a statement.

“That is why I directed the Texas Rangers to fully investigate the group behind the proposed EPIC compound for potentially violating criminal law. Texas will ensure that anyone affiliated with EPIC who is breaking the law is brought to justice,” he added.
The investigation will focus on any potential violations of criminal law, and charges will be brought forward to prosecutorial authorities if necessary once the investigation is complete.
Beyond the Texas Rangers’ criminal investigation, a dozen state agencies are also looking into EPIC and its affiliated entities.
The proposed EPIC compound in Collin Co. has serious legal issues.
A dozen state agencies are investigating it, the Attorney General will look into it, and legislators are considering laws to restrict it, as well as laws to prevent foreign adversaries from buying land in Texas.

The Texas Workforce Commission is investigating the organization for potential violations of the Texas Fair Housing Act, while the Texas State Securities Board is examining possible financial harm to Texans. In addition, the Texas Funeral Service Commission has issued a cease-and-desist order against EPIC for allegedly conducting illegal funeral services.
Attorney General Ken Paxton’s (R) Office is also investigating EPIC for potential violations of Texas consumer protection laws.
“We will not allow any organization to operate outside the bounds of Texas law,” Governor Abbott warned. “The state of Texas will continue to defend our communities and hold lawbreakers accountable.”
EPIC has not yet publicly responded to the allegations or Texas’ ongoing scrutiny.
