Scott Bowen (R), a lifelong resident of House District 129 and a conservative Republican, officially launched his campaign for the Texas House of Representatives. He is seeking to succeed Rep. Dennis Paul (R), who recently announced his candidacy for the Texas Senate after over a decade of service in the Texas House.
Bowen, a Texas A&M chemical engineering graduate, previously served as an at-large trustee on the Clear Creek ISD Board from 2019 to 2025. During his tenure, he focused on increasing transparency, opposed COVID-related mask mandates, and pushed schools to reopen quickly. He also authored and passed a policy banning Critical Race Theory, a measure his campaign says was the first adopted by any school district in Texas.
“As a lifelong resident of our community, I am extremely proud to announce my campaign with the backing of our area's strongest grassroots leaders and conservative state legislators,” Bowen said in a statement. “I love the people of HD 129, and it would be my great honor to represent them in the Texas House. We are running to win and ensure that our community continues to have a strong conservative voice in Austin.”
Bowen’s campaign launches with support from key conservative lawmakers, including State Senator Mayes Middleton (R) and State Representatives Briscoe Cain (R) and Cody Vasut (R), each known for championing conservative priorities in the Texas Legislature.
House District 129 includes parts of southeast Harris County, including Clear Lake and surrounding communities. Scott Bowen’s candidacy aims to continue the district’s conservative representation in Austin.
Meanwhile, Rep. Dennis Paul’s bid for State Senate has received a major boost with an endorsement from Lt. Governor Dan Patrick (R), signaling strong establishment support for his next step in public service.
