Texas is leading the nation in job creation rankings, with new employment data showing the state added more nonfarm jobs over the past year than any other state, Governor Greg Abbott (R) announced this week.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, Texas gained 215,500 jobs from April 2024 to April 2025, including 37,700 in April alone.
“Texas is the No. 1 state in the nation for job creation because Texas moves at the speed of business,” said Governor Abbott in a statement. “That is why Texas employers have added more than 2.5 million jobs since I’ve been Governor.”
Since taking office in January 2015, Governor Abbott has emphasized a low-tax, business-friendly regulatory environment, which he credits for attracting new companies and fueling job growth. “Texas continues to attract more corporate relocations and business expansions than any other state,” he said.
The April jobs report also marked record highs for total jobs, workforce participation, and the number of Texans employed, which are milestones that Governor Abbott celebrated alongside the Texas Workforce Commission. This is why the governor called Texas "the undisputed champion for attracting job-creating business investments in the United States."
To further support economic momentum, Governor Abbott recently signed three new pieces of legislation aimed at strengthening the state’s capital markets and legal framework for business leaders.
“With continued investments in job training for high-demand industries, Texas will remain the Best State for Business and the best state for job creation for decades to come,” he said.
Since 2015, Texas has added more than 2.5 million nonfarm jobs, which is more than any other state during that period. The numbers reinforce the state as an economic powerhouse.
With ongoing business reforms and workforce investments, the Texas governor argues that the Lone Star State is poised to maintain its leading role well into the future.
