The debate surrounding the One Big Beautiful Bill (OBBB) continues, but The White House is making the case that Latinos and working families will benefit most if the measure is passed, and eventually signed into law by President Donald Trump.
In a new economic analysis shared by the White House, the Council of Economic Advisers projects major financial gains for Texas workers, families, seniors, and small businesses. Among the most touted provisions is a rise in long-run, inflation-adjusted wages, which the White House estimates would increase by $6,000 to $11,300 for Texas workers.
Because of tax relief and expanded credits, a typical family of four in Texas could see their take-home pay rise by $7,700 to $13,000 if the bill passes. The White House emphasized these gains would disproportionately help Latino families, many of whom fall within income brackets most likely to benefit from the OBB’s provisions.
Roughly 27% of Texas employees regularly work overtime, and 64% are eligible for it. This means the OBBB’s no-tax-on-overtime provision could have widespread impact. Meanwhile, nearly 5% of the Texas labor force works in occupations that would benefit from the bill’s no-tax-on-tips clause, which is a measure the president has previously supported to help service workers.
Additionally, the OBBB’s elimination of taxes on Social Security benefits could benefit 4 million seniors across Texas.
The White House also claims that the bill would protect about 578,000 full-time equivalent jobs over the next four years if passed – particularly compared to what would happen if the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act expires as scheduled.
For small business owners, the extension of the 199A passthrough deduction is expected to benefit roughly 390,000 Texas firms, or 42% of all businesses in the state. The OBBB also enhances Opportunity Zones, which previously helped generate 85,000 jobs and 20,000 housing units in Texas.
Despite some Republican hesitation over the OBBB, the Trump Administration remains optimistic that economic gains for Texas families will build support for the bill’s passage.
White House Spokesperson Taylor Rogers commented on the impact the OBBB would have on the Latino community, which she argues supports the bill.
“Latinos – who historically supported President Trump’s America First Agenda in November – are counting on the Senate to pass The One, Big, Beautiful, Bill to deliver the largest tax cuts in history, including no tax on tips, overtime, or social security,” Taylor said. “Hardworking Americans were promised tax cuts, not tax hikes, and failure to pass this bill would stick Americans with the largest tax hike in history.”
