Following the recent “12 Day War” between Israel and Iran, Rep. Pat Fallon (R) is voicing strong support for President Donald Trump’s (R) effort to implement a national missile defense plan called the “Golden Dome.”
“The United States is safer because of the strikes President Trump ordered, there’s no doubt about that,” Rep. Fallon told KTEN News, referring to President Trump’s military action against Iran to deter its nuclear ambitions. “A nuclear Iran would be something that would not only upset the balance of power in the Middle East but would have reverberations around the globe.”
The “Golden Dome” is modeled after Israel’s Iron Dome, which is a missile interception system that played a large role in defending Israel during its latest conflict with Iran. Though highly effective, even a few missiles slipping through resulted in devastation, a fact Rep. Fallon says highlights the urgency of protecting U.S. territory.
“We see what the Iron Dome over Israel can do, and we really need to be able to protect Americans and American citizens,” Rep. Fallon said. “That’s why I think it’s vital and crucial to invest in the technology that will — God forbid there is a strike or an attempted one on the homeland — we will be able to react accordingly.”
President Trump has committed $175 billion toward the Golden Dome initiative, which aims to neutralize missile threats from adversaries anywhere in the world. Lawmakers like Rep. Fallon see the project as a cornerstone of U.S. national security.
As tension between the United States and Iran continues to boil, Grand Ayatollah Naser Makarem Shirazi, one of Iran’s top Shiite clerics, has issued a fatwa against President Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, referring to them as “enemies of God” and urging Muslims worldwide to act.
