Mothers Against Greg Abbott Slams Colin Allred

The progressive grassroots organization Mothers Against Greg Abbott PAC announced this week that they would not be supporting former Rep. Colin Allred’s (D) 2026 Senate bid. The organization cited deep dissatisfaction with Rep. Allred’s voting record and political strategy.

Rep. Allred's candidacy after a decisive loss to Senator Ted Cruz (R) in 2023. Despite his enthusiasm for the upcoming Senate election, Mothers Against Greg Abbott PAC isn’t as thrilled.

“We were so excited for him to announce in 2023. He appeared at the time as a young progressive – and we couldn't be more wrong,” the PAC wrote in a lengthy X post, outlining 12 reasons why they aren’t supporting Rep. Allred’s campaign.

The group described his campaign as lackluster, accusing him of being disconnected from voters.

Among their chief complaints was Rep. Allred’s perceived detachment from the Democratic base.

“He didn’t want to be seen with Biden or Kamala until the very end,” the PAC wrote. “It felt like he was a turncoat.” They also criticized his absence from key events, noting, “we invited him to several events and webinars… he didn’t have the decency to call back or follow up.”

The post also slammed his alignment with more Democrats considered to be more centrist like Rep. Henry Cuellar (D), accusing Rep. Allred of “brown-nosing Republicans” and abandoning progressive momentum.

“Texas Democrats have moved further to the left, and we don't trust his centrist approach. It doesn't work,” they wrote.

The PAC also criticized Rep. Allred’s fundraising tactics and public engagement. “Where is Colin was actually a joke game we played in ’24! Because he was nowhere,” the PAC questioned.

The organization believes that  poor ground campaigning, lack of visibility at the 2024 Democratic convention, and minimal communication with supporters has deeply affected Rep. Allred's political viability.

“No one asked for this. But maybe the DC consultants that get paid no matter what… don’t give a shit if Democrats in Texas lose… again!” the organization concluded.
