Abbott Celebrates Economic Milestones in July Jobs Report

Texas has hit new milestones in workforce and job creation, according to July labor market data released by the Texas Workforce Commission. Governor Greg Abbott (R) praised the state's economic performance, noting that Texas added 232,500 jobs over the past 12 months, surpassing the national annual job growth rate by 0.6 percentage points.

“Texas continues to see sustained job growth thanks to having the best business climate in America and the productivity of hardworking Texans,” said Governor Abbott. “With more Texans working than ever before, we must ensure Texans across our great state have access to the tools and training needed to secure better jobs and bigger paychecks.”

According to the data, Texas set a new record for the number of people working, including the self-employed, totaling 15,213,700. Total non-farm employment also reached a new high of 14,333,800 after gaining 8,700 jobs in July. The state’s civilian labor force grew to 15,848,800, reflecting an increase of 195,900 people over the past year. Meanwhile, the unemployment rate held steady at 4.0%.

Governor Abbott highlighted recent legislative efforts to expand workforce opportunities, including laws signed this year to broaden career training access. These initiatives aim to match Texas workers with the demands of a rapidly growing economy.

In addition, Abbott recently announced over $1.6 million in Jobs and Education for Texans (JET) grants to support technical education programs in South Texas.

Texans impacted by the July floods in designated disaster areas are eligible to apply for Disaster Unemployment Assistance (DUA). Applications must be submitted by September 4, 2025, via the Texas Workforce Commission.
