The National Border Patrol Council (NBPC) has endorsed Aaron Reitz (R) in his bid to become the next Attorney General of Texas.
In a statement, NBPC President Paul Perez praised Reitz’s “proven record on border security, deporting illegal aliens, and standing with Border Patrol agents and their mission.”
“The National Border Patrol Council is proud to endorse Aaron Reitz for Texas Attorney General,” Perez said. “Aaron is a principled fighter with a deep sense of duty and an unwavering commitment to supporting the mission of securing the border.”
Since announcing his candidacy, Reitz has highlighted his several high-profile roles tied to immigration enforcement.
As Deputy Attorney General for Legal Strategy under current Attorney General Ken Paxton (R), Reitz led multiple lawsuits against the Biden administration’s border and immigration policies, including challenges to the deportation freeze, rollback of the “Remain in Mexico” policy, and termination of Title 42.
Then, as Chief of Staff to Senator Ted Cruz (R), Reitz helped drive legislative efforts to resume border wall construction, criminalize visa overstays, and defund NGOs that aid illegal entry.
He also worked on the Justice for Jocelyn Act, a bill inspired by the killing of 12-year-old Jocelyn Nungaray.
Most recently, Reitz served as head of the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office of Legal Policy under President Donald Trump (R), where he fought sanctuary jurisdictions, supported operations against drug cartels, and backed initiatives targeting violent gangs.
These are all efforts that Perez noted qualify Reitz for the position.
In response to the endorsement, Reitz said he was “deeply honored,” calling it “a sacred trust from the men and women who put their lives on the line every day to defend our country’s sovereignty.”
“As the next Texas Attorney General, I’m going to partner closely with these men and women to secure the border and deport illegal aliens,” he vowed. “And I intend to fully embrace the motto of their agency: ‘Honor First.’”
The NBPC represents 16,000 Border Patrol agents nationwide.
