Base Power, an Austin-based home energy company, has announced its expansion into Dallas-Fort Worth, to provide home energy and grid support. CEO and co-founder Zach Dell called the expansion “a major milestone” in its mission to transform how Texans power their homes.
In a statement, Dell expressed that “expanding into Dallas is a major milestone for Base – one we’ve been building towards since day one.” “This city reflects the scale and ambition behind our mission, and we couldn’t be more excited to finally serve the thousands of households that have been waiting for a better energy solution,” he added.
The company, which launched in the Austin area last year, now serves homeowners across Texas, including Houston, San Antonio, and cities around Austin.
With its expansion into the Dallas-Fort Worth area, Base Power now brings its battery-powered energy model to one of the fastest-growing regions in the country, which is home to more than seven million people.
Unlike traditional backup power systems, Base offers a simple, subscription-style plan that provides a whole-home backup battery starting at $695 for installation and $19 per month.
The system requires no solar panels but is compatible with homes that already have them.
When an outage occurs, the battery automatically powers the home. At the same time, Base Power earns revenue by providing services to the electric grid, passing along savings to their customers.
To support growth in North Texas, Base Power has opened an office and warehouse in Grapevine and hired more than 10 full-time employees locally.
Base Power now employs over 200 people across its Austin headquarters, Bay Area engineering hub, and statewide field operations.
Backed by more than $270 million in funding and partnerships with homebuilders like Lennar and utilities including GVEC and Bandera Electric Cooperative, Base Power is looking to be a central figure in the Lone Star state’s ongoing fight for grid reliability.
