Governor Greg Abbott (R) today announced a $40 million commitment to support long-term housing recovery in Kerrville and surrounding areas following the devastating July 4th floods. Governor Abbott made the announcement alongside the Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country, which is managing the distribution of the funds.
"I have never seen a community or foundation respond faster at getting the resources donated to the people who need it the most," Governor Abbott said. “Today, with this announcement, $40 million is going to go directly to help people actually get back into their homes.”
State and federal agencies will allocate the funding based on comprehensive needs assessments and disaster data to provide sustainable housing solutions for displaced residents.
Austin Dickson, CEO of the Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country; Luci Harmon, Superintendent of Hunt Independent School District; along with local, state, and federal officials and leaders from nonprofit and business communities joined Governor Abbott at the announcement.
The Community Foundation, which has served the region since 1981, will manage the recovery fund through partnerships with local organizations and agencies. The goal is to ensure that families can return to safe, stable homes as quickly as possible.
“This is a powerful example of how public-private collaboration can directly improve lives,” said Dickson. “The Foundation is committed to transparency and equity in how these funds are used to rebuild our communities.”
