Brazos Midstream has announced plans to construct a new natural gas processing plant in Martin County as part of a $185 million expansion supported by Texas' Jobs, Energy, Technology, and Innovation (JETI) program.
The new cryogenic facility, named Sundance II, will add 300 million cubic feet per day (MMcf/d) of processing capacity, more than doubling the company’s current capacity in the Midland Basin to 500 MMcf/d.
Governor Greg Abbott (R) hailed the project, saying, “Texas energy fuels the American economy. Brazos Midstream’s $185 million expansion in Martin County will more than double their natural gas processing capacity in the Midland Basin.”
The expansion reflects rising demand for natural gas infrastructure in the Permian Basin, which accounts for nearly 25% of U.S. natural gas production from the lower 48 states.
Brazos Midstream CEO Brad Iles called the project “mission-critical,” noting that the plant will deliver reliable takeaway capacity to regional energy producers. The facility will bolster both production reliability and long-term energy security.
State and local leaders emphasized the project’s economic and strategic value.
Senator Kevin Sparks (R) said, “This facility will strengthen our region’s role in powering the nation.”
Representative Tom Craddick (R) added, “It will bring new jobs, strengthen our local economy, and ensure Texas remains a leader in energy.”
Once operational, Sundance II is expected to generate local employment opportunities and contribute to the region’s infrastructure resilience, positioning Texas to continue leading the national energy landscape.
