Three Dallas ISD magnet schools have once again ranked at the top of Texas high school rankings, according to the 2025 U.S. News & World Report list of the best public high schools in the country.

For the third year in a row, the School for the Talented and Gifted (TAG), Irma Lerma Rangel Young Women’s Leadership School, and the School of Science and Engineering were named the top three high schools in Texas.

Nationally, TAG ranked ninth overall and 33rd among STEM schools.

“Being ranked the number-one high school in Texas is a powerful reflection of the hard work, values, and commitment of our entire school community,” said TAG principal Arnoldo Zúñiga. “It means more than just a number; it represents a culture of excellence, growth, and shared purpose.”

Irma Lerma Rangel placed 15th nationally, while the School of Science and Engineering ranked 23rd overall and 46th among STEM schools.

The annual rankings evaluated data from more than 24,000 public high schools nationwide.

The schools were scored on six factors, including college readiness, state assessment proficiency, state assessment performance, underserved student performance, curriculum breadth, and graduation rates.

In total, more than 30 North Texas schools ranked among the top 100 in Texas, including Grand Prairie Collegiate Institute, Westlake Academy, Highland Park High School, and Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts.

The 2025 rankings highlight North Texas as a hub for high-performing public schools, particularly within Dallas ISD. The new data also comes at a time when the state is leading the country in various educational initiatives.
