ENGIE North America has announced a partnership with Prometheus Hyperscale to build artificial intelligence-ready data centers directly alongside renewable energy and battery storage facilities in Texas.

The partnership will align digital infrastructure growth with the clean energy transition.

Under the exclusive agreement, Prometheus Hyperscale will deploy its liquid-cooled data center systems adjacent to ENGIE North America’s assets along the I-35 corridor.

The first sites are expected to go live in 2026, and additional locations are planned from 2027 onward.

In a statement, Bernard Looney, the chairman of Prometheus Hyperscale and the former CEO of BP, commented that “Prometheus is committed to developing sustainable next generation digital infrastructure for AI.” “We cannot do this alone – ENGIE’s existing assets and expertise as a major player in the global energy transition make them a perfect partner as we work to build data centers that meet market needs today and tomorrow,” Looney added.

AI workloads are power-hungry, and siting data centers directly next to renewable output is expected to reduce strain on Texas’ grid.

ENGIE North America operates a large portfolio of wind, solar, and storage in Texas, which gives Prometheus Hyperscale access to clean energy at scale.

To ensure reliable operations before long-term renewable supply ramps up, Prometheus Hyperscale will also collaborate with Conduit, an on-site generation provider, for bridging and backup power solutions.

The partnership includes plans to offset project-related carbon emissions through established market-based mechanisms.

The partnership also shows the state’s commitment to implementing a green energy transition as it becomes a major hub for renewable energy development and data center growth.
