During a House Judiciary Committee hearing, FBI Director Kash Patel fielded questions from the committee, affirming that the FBI will "follow the money" on issues related to “Dark Money” in politics and the “Epstein Files.”
The FBI Director has been in the public spotlight recently, sharing updates on the Charlie Kirk assassination, and commenting on the ongoing conflicting reports regarding the Jeffrey Epstein case.
In his comments, Rep. Chip Roy (R) emphasized that the FBI should investigate the "web of dollars that are flowing to undermine our way of life."
The Texas Republican recently requested the formation of a select committee to investigate "the money, influence, and power behind the radical left's assault on America and the rule of law." In his request, and citing the fatal shooting of Charlie Kirk, Rep. Roy expressed that "we are witnessing a sustained breakdown of law and order, fueled not by chance, but by anti-American ideology."
When questioned about this, Director Patel affirmed that the FBI is "following the money in every organization and every person that is violating the federal code," adding that the agency is "using legal process to follow the money."
Rep. Troy Nehls (R) shared some comments on the matter, remembering Kirk for his defense of public discourse and lamenting that "they killed him for it."
Calling Kirk "a remarkable, honorable man, that was silenced with an assassin's bullet," he further suggested that "if Charlie lived in the Biblical times, he would've been the 13th Disciple."
On the subject of the Epstein investigation, tension between committee members and Director Patel heightened as some questioned if Patel and the agency were covering up for people implicated in the investigation.
"You are hiding the Epstein Files, Mr. Patel," New York Rep. Dan Goldman (D) accused. "You are part of the cover-up."
Washington Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D) further accused that Director Patel is covering for "rich and powerful men, including those who might be on this committee." She did not specify who she was referring to.
Affirming that the agency has done more in the investigation than was done under the Obama Administration and Biden Administration, Director Patel addressed that “the work of the FBI speaks for itself.”
