Over the weekend, conservatives gathered to honor the memory of Charlie Kirk in Glendale, Arizona. Speakers like President Donald Trump (R) and Vice President JD Vance (R) mourned the conservative figure, which drew criticism from progressives on social media.
Kirk's murder has resulted in even more political tension as conservatives and progressives and even conservative infighting has erupted, arguing over free speech and the legacy of the Turning Point USA CEO.
As Republicans took to the stage to share their thoughts on Kirk, his political efforts, and what his death means for the nation at large, progressives denounced the event, likening it to both a Nazi rally and a WWE event because of its pageantry.
During a recent appearance on CNN's State of the Union, Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D) discussed a resolution introduced in the House to honor the life of Kirk. 58 Democrats voted. Rep. Crockett was among the votes.
In speaking about the votes, she expressed that "for the most part, the only people that voted no were people of color because the rhetoric that Charlie Kirk continuously put out there was rhetoric that specifically targeted people of color. And, so, it is unfortunate that even our colleagues cannot see how harmful his rhetoric was."
Despite the criticism, Republican lawmakers remained firm in remembering Kirk as God-fearing, conservative figure.
On social media, Senator John Cornyn (R) called Kirk "a visionary."
"But he was not just a dreamer, he was a doer, a man of uncommon courage. His life proves that character matters," the Texas senator described.
FBI Director Kash Patel also weighed in on the effort to investigate the murder of Kirk, which has drawn scrutiny from both sides of the political aisle.
In a social media post, the FBI Director reiterated what he had previously mentioned, affirming that the FBI is "examining every facet of this assassination."
