White House Looks to Retain GOP Majority in Congress

Because the White House is laser-focused on retaining the Republican majority in the U.S. House of Representatives, some competitive and not-so-competitive primary races like the Texas House District 34 between former Rep. Mayra (MAGA Mayra) Flores and former Biden Department of Justice (DOJ) attorney Eric Flores could take center stage in the 2026 midterm election cycle.

Rep. Flores, who received the coveted endorsement of President Donald Trump during the 2024 presidential election cycle, appears to be the clear frontrunner in the race.

Mr. Flores, an attorney and a former military veteran, could make the primary race interesting, but we will first have to try to overcome the fact that he joined President Joe Biden’s administration, spending “three remarkable years” in the DOJ.

“After three remarkable years as an Assistant United States Attorney, I have completed my commitment, and my time in this role has come to a close! These years have been defined by unwavering dedication to the pursuit of justice, combating white-collar crime and safeguarding the integrity of our financial systems,” stated Flores on social media.

“My values are rooted in faith. They’re rooted in family. And they’re rooted in country. That’s not the Democratic Party today,” Flores said when he announced his congressional run for office. “And that’s why I’m running as a Republican.”

Mr. Flores, whose family has deep Democrat Party ties to the region, appears to have been a lifelong voting Democrat according to public records.’’

According to the “Hidalgo County Voting History Record” up until the 2020 General Election, Mr. Flores was listed as a registered Democrat and voted in both the primary and general election that year.

Who did Mr. Flores vote for in the 2020 Democratic presidential primary election?

Did Mr. Flores vote for President Biden over President Trump in 2024?

With Republican voters appearing to only support candidates for elected office that support President Trump and his “America First Agenda,” expressing support for former Democrats, particularly President Joe Biden, could be a non-starter for staunch MAGA voters in Texas.

“Congratulations to President Biden and Madame Vice President Kamala Harris may God grant you wisdom and strength to lead the nation. Godspeed,” stated Mr. Flores on social media back in 2021.

Flores’ congratulating of Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris may be seen as admirable by some, but most MAGA Republican voters will most likely see this gesture as proof-positive that Flores supported Biden over Trump in 2020.

Joining the Department of Justice shortly after President Biden took office could be very problematic for Mr. Flores, considering that during his tenure in the Biden administration, President Trump was persecuted.
