Governor Greg Abbott has announced the formation of the Texas Repeat Offender Program (TxROP). The new joint task force is aimed at cracking down on violent repeat offenders in the Houston Area.

The initiative brings together the Texas Department of Public Safety, the Houston Police Department, and federal law enforcement partners to address concerns over community safety and repeat criminal behavior.

"We are putting violent repeat offenders on notice," Abbott declared in his announcement. "We are going to target you, arrest you, and put you behind bars where you belong."

The task force will utilize DPS resources, including the Air Operations Division, Homeland Security Division, and Criminal Investigation Division, to conduct tactical and covert operations.

The program will identify and monitor offenders, enforce court-ordered conditions, and remove dangerous individuals from Texas communities.

The Announcement of the Task force follows Abbott's signing of a sweeping bail reform package, widely regarded as the most strict in Texas history.

Abbott says that the TxROP is part of a broader law-and-order agenda to enhance public safety and restore confidence in the criminal justice system across Texas, especially in high-crime urban centers like Houston.
