U.S. Senator Ted Cruz (R) has commended President Donald Trump following the announcement of a first-phase peace agreement between Israel and Hamas.
The deal includes a ceasefire and release of hostages held by Hamas, marking a pivotal moment in the conflict that began with the October 7 terrorist attack on Israel.
"President Trump's announcement is a cause for celebration," Cruz said in a statement. "Two years ago, Hamas terrorists started this war by launching an unprovoked attack on Israel, which became the worst one-day massacre of Jews since the Holocaust and included the murder and kidnapping of dozens of Americans."
Cruz highlighted the continuous alliance between the United States and Israel, emphasizing that Israeli forces have fought with "incredible bravery" to neutralize threats posed by Iranian-backed terror groups.
He credited Trump for providing "unprecedented support" to Israel and for laying the groundwork for a peace deal that Cruz believes will enhance both Israeli and American security.
"The release of all hostages has been long overdue," said Cruz, expressing hope that affected families will find healing. "Heidi and I carry their sorrows in our hearts and uplift them in prayer."
The agreement represents a significant development in the long-standing conflict and highlights continued U.S. political involvement in Middle East diplomacy.
As the situation unfolds, Cruz and other Republican leaders continues to stress the support of Israel's security and sovereignty.
