U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R) praised the announcement that the National Domestic Violence Hotline, based in Austin, Texas, will receive nearly $19 million in federal funding from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ).
The funding will allow the Hotline to continue providing 24/7 support for survivors of domestic violence and their families, including new specialized services for military families through first-time funding from the Department of War.
"For nearly three decades, the National Domestic Violence Hotline based in Austin, Texas, has provided around-the-clock support for survivors of domestic violence and abuse nationwide," Cornyn said in a statement. "This funding will help The Hotline continue its lifesaving work of giving a voice to the voiceless and providing safety and refuge to those impacted by unimaginable trauma."
The National Domestic Violence Hotline offers free and confidential crisis intervention, information, and referral services for victims of domestic violence. It has operated in Austin since 1996 and serves as an important resource for survivors, law enforcement, and support people across the country.
The DOJ's Office for Victims of Crime was made possible through the Victims of Crime Act, a program Cornyn has championed to ensure stability for victim service providers.
