Attorney General Ken Paxton (R) and Rep. Wesley Hunt (R) are vying for the U.S. Senate seat in Texas, and each candidate, including incumbent Senator John Cornyn (R), is doing his best to position himself as the "MAGA" candidate. With Senator Cornyn calling Rep. Hunt ‘Fake MAGA’ in a new advertisement, the senatorial hopeful has responded to the criticism in a fiery social media post.

Responding to the incumbent senator's advertisement, Rep. Hunt accused the incumbent senator of betraying conservative values and undermining President Donald Trump (R).

“It’s ironic being called ‘Fake MAGA’ by a Senator running in the wrong Texas Primary, because his record reads like a registered Democrat,” Rep. Hunt wrote on social media.

“It’s ironic being called ‘Fake MAGA’ by a man who told the press America was ready to move on from President Trump,” Rep. Hunt continued, accusing Senator Cornyn of having “worked behind the scenes to stop Trump’s reelection.”

The most damning criticism comes from President Trump himself, as Rep. Hunt shared a post from Truth Social wherein the president calls Senator Cornyn “weak, ineffective, and very bad for the Republican Party, and our Nation.”

President Trump has notably remained mum on the subject of the senate race.

Rep. Hunt, who is a close ally of the president, recently entered the Republican Primary, but the president has not yet announced who he is endorsing for the Texas Senate.

Despite that, Rep. Hunt has maintained that he is the "America First" candidate, and he is expressing his support for the president, noting that he has been "MAGA" from the beginning.

"I was the first in the nation to endorse President Trump, not when it was easy, not when it was trendy, but when it mattered," Rep. Hunt shared on social media.

The National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) has aggressively campaign against Rep. Hunt, vowing to do everything in its power to keep Senator Cornyn in office. Ahead of Rep. Hunt announcing his candidacy, the NRSC called it "a vanity project."
