Jupiter Power LLC and Denton Municipal Electric (DME) have entered into a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) for 100 megawatts (MW) of battery storage capacity at Jupiter Power's Tidwell Prairie II project in north Texas.
The 10-year contract, approved by the Denton City Council this fall, underscores the city's ongoing commitment to grid reliability and sustainable energy solutions.
The Tidewell Prairie II facility is a 2-hour duration battery energy storage system designed to provide flexible capacity during peak demand periods and enhance the reliability of DME's service to residents.
By storing and dispatching electricity when needed most, the system will help balance the grid and support Denton's long-term energy goals.
"Battery storage is a critical part of the modern grid, and we are proud to partner with DME on this project," said Jack Godshall, Chief Operating Officer of Jupiter Power. "Jupiter Power currently has 2,000 MWh of battery energy storage projects operating in ERCOT, and another 1,600 MWh coming soon, further demonstrating our commitment to delivering the storage resources Texas needs to meet growing demand and ensure reliability."
Tony Puente, DME General Manager, expressed that "battery storage is an important component of our strategy to maintain affordability, reliability, and sustainability for the Denton community."
Through this partnership, Jupiter Power and DME are advancing an innovative energy solution that strengthens Denton's power infrastructure while contributing to a more resilient Texas electric grid.
