Democratic state Senator Sarah Eckhardt has announced her run to represent Texas's 10th congressional district. Representative Michael McCaul (R), who has represented the district since 2005, announced recently that he would not be seeking reelection in 2026.
Eckhardt has spent the last 5 years representing the 14th Senate District of Texas, which encompasses Austin. Before that, she was a prosecutor, county commissioner, and a Travis County Judge.
"We don't have to agree on everything, but just like the 13 colonies, we can do big things that tackle our challenges and bring real solutions that last just as long as Mansfield Dam, not just until the next election cycle," said Eckhardt in her announcement. "That's why I'm running for Congressional District 10."

Eckhardt has stated that her campaign is about finding "common ground" in order to move the country forward.
"Every Texan wants the same basic thing, a safe place to live, good schools for our kids, reliable healthcare, and a government that shows up when disaster strikes," Eckhardt commented on her candidacy. "But instead of solving real problems, too many politicians spend their time protecting the powerful and keeping us divided over things that dont put food on the table or keep the lights on."
If elected, Eckhardt has promised to restore trust and accountability in government, and fight for the issues all of her constituents need and want.
