U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R) joined the Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-IA) and Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations Chairman Ron Johnson (R-WI) in a press conference following the release of 197 subpoenas issued by Special Counsel Jack Smith and his team as part of the case against President Donald Trump, which originated under the Biden Administration FBI under the codename "Arctic Frost."
The Subpoenas, which were obtained through legally protected whistleblower disclosures to Chairman Grassley, reportedly sought testimony, communications, and records from at least 430 Republican individuals and entities, raising deep concerns about political bias and selective enforcement within the Department of Justice.
"I want to thank Senator Grassley and Senator Johnson for their perseverance in this investigation," Cornyn praised. "We don't have the time to go through all of the many ways that the Democratic Party and President Trump's opponents tried to target him and tried to destroy him."
Cornyn pointed to the subpoenas as clear evidence of what he described as the weaponization of federal law enforcement.
"I can't think of any greater evidence of weaponization than the fact... this extended far beyond President Trump, and extended to President Trump's supporters," said Cornyn.
Cornyn went on to warn that the implications of the subpoenas go beyond parisan politics.
"If they would do that to the President of the United States, if they would do this to United States Senators and Members of Congress, what would they do to you?" Cornyn questioned. "This out to be a chilling message to each and every American who loves this great country country and believes in our constitutional system and equal justice under the law."
Senator Cornyn's remarks highlight his deep concern over what he and colleagues view as a dangerous politicization of federal law enforcement. Cornyn framed the issue as not just a partisan dispute but a fundamental threat to the principle of equal justice under the law.
