Over the weekend, Governor Greg Abbott announced a Skills Development Fund (SDF) grant of $805,000 to Texarkana College.
This grant provides customized training for high-demand occupations to the workers at Grant Packaging International within the paper manufacturing industry.
In an official statement released by the Office of the Governor of Texas, Abbott stated that “Texas invests in hardworking Texans to ensure that our state remains the economic engine of the nation.”
The Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) runs the SDF grant program, among other initiatives, to help the Texas economy and workforce. TWC is a state agency that oversees and provides workforce development under the Governor's economic development strategy.
“Through this grant, employees will be equipped with the tools and skills needed to enhance their high-demand careers and further grow our paper manufacturing industry," Abbott added. "I thank the Texas Workforce Commission for their collaboration with Texarkana College to expand the better jobs and bigger paycheck opportunities that we provide for Texans.”
Since the beginning of this year, TWC has awarded multiple educational facilities with SDF grants.
Earlier this month, Abbott announced $14 million (JET) grants to Texas institutions and independent school districts.
"As our economy grows, Texas will continue to invest in the future of our workforce," said Governor Abbott.
