Governor Greg Abbott declared the Muslim Brotherhood and the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) as “transnational and foreign terrorist organizations” this week.

In a post on X, Abbott signed the proclamation to prohibit them from “buying or acquiring land in Texas and authorizes the Attorney General to sue to shut them down.”

In the proclamation, it lists several reasons why the Muslim Brotherhood and CAIR are being labeled terrorised groups. This includes the alleged attachment to previously dictated terrorist organizations as well as the alleged advancement of Sharia Law.

Following the declaration, CAIR responded with a letter stating that the proclamation “has no basis in law or fact.”

According to a press release, Abbot has now called on North District Attorneys to begin investigations into sharia councils in the state of Texas. “These tribunals have no legal authority in our state. Only Texas laws enforced by Texas courts govern our people,” the governor commented.

The future of these councils are uncertain as the Texas government begins these investigations.
