President Donald Trump is weighing in on the upcoming 2026 races in Texas, and his latest endorsement goes to an incumbent fending off against a controversial rival. President Trump has endorsed incumbent John Carter (R-TX) in his primary race against Valentina Gomez and numerous other congressional hopefuls.
Taking to Truth Social to share his endorsement, the president detailed that Carter "served over 20 years as a District Court Judge in Williamson County prior to becoming a very distinguished and respected U.S. Congressman." "He is working tirelessly to Grow our Economy, Cut Taxes and Regulations, Promote MADE IN THE U.S.A, Champion American Energy DOMINANCE, Keep our now very Secure Border, SECURE, Stop Migrant Crime, Murderers, and other Criminals from illegally entering our country, Strengthen our Military/Veterans, and Defend our always under siege Second Amendment," he added.
Valentina Gomez, who previously led an unsuccessful bid for Missouri Secretary of State in 2024, is a controversial figure who has prided herself on being a staunch supporter of the president. She often shares inflammatory remarks and videos on social media, touting herself as a "MAGA" candidate. Both Republicans and Democrats have derided her political engagement.
Despite Gomez's staunch support of the president, his "Complete and Total Endorsement for Re-Election" goes to Rep. Carter, who is seen as the clear frontrunner in the GOP primary.
Among the GOP challengers for Texas' House District 31 is also Vince Shlomi, otherwise known as the "ShamWow guy."
Shlomi entered the race last month, vowing to "destroy wokism." Like Gomez, he is a controversial figure.
Rep. Carter is an eight-term incumbent, and the Republican primary is scheduled for March 3, 2026.
