Former Texas Rep. Colin Allred has dropped out of the Texas Senate race, shifting his focus to Texas's newly redrawn House District 33.
All eyes are on the Texas Senate race as growing murmurs indicate that Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) is nearing an announcement of her own aspirations to unseat Senator John Cornyn (R-TX).
The latest development in the senate race sees Allred -- who formerly represented Texas's House District 32 from 2019 to 2025 -- announce his exit from the race this week. In a statement shared on social media, Allred warned that "the 33rd district was racially gerrymandered by Trump in an effort to further rig our democracy but it's also the community where I grew up attending public schools and watching my mom struggle to pay for our groceries."

With Texas's newly redrawn congressional map, Republicans are hoping to gain 5 additional seats to bolster a slim majority in the House. However, Democrats like Allred are hoping to stop the GOP's expansion.
"Today, the danger we face from Donald Trump is even greater and has added a level of corruption and rigging of our economy that has made it harder than ever for Texans," Allred highlighted in a statement. "But I've never been more confident that together, we can meet this moment."
Facing an uphill battle against senatorial hopeful and current state Rep. James Talarico (D-TX), Allred lagged in fundraising, and his chances of scoring the nomination would only grow smaller if Rep. Crockett enters the fray. This was Allred's second attempt to win a Senate seat after losing to Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) in the 2024 general election.
Setting his sights on a return to Congress, Allred is asking for support "to keep fighting so that kids who are growing up all across the 33rd district can get the same chances as I did."
