On December 3rd, President Donald Trump pardoned Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-TX) over bribery charges the President deemed fraudulent. Moving past the pardon, Rep. Cuellar has expressed his gratitude along with his intention to run for re-election as a Democrat, but President Trump isn’t thrilled about the announcement.
In announcing the pardon earlier this month, President Trump stated that the Biden administration had “weaponized the Justice System against their Political Opponents,” naming Rep. Cuellar as a victim.
During an interview with Maria Bartiromo on Sunday Morning Futures, Rep. Cuellar was asked if he had considered switching parties after the pardon, but he simply responded, “Look, I’m a Democrat.”
President Trump responded to the Texas Democrat’s re-election announcement with disdain, noting that he had prevented “the Crooked Joe Biden Administration” from imprisoning Rep. Cuellar and his wife, Imelda Cuellar, for 15 years.
“The Dems mercilessly went after Henry with everything they had!” the President declared, adding that “they were looking to destroy him, his lovely wife, his two young daughters, and anyone close to them.”
Given that Rep. Cuellar is set to run for re-election as a Democrat, President Trump feels he will continue “to work with the same Radical left Scum that just weeks before wanted him and his wife to spend the rest of their lives in Prison – And probably still do!” The President went on to call the announcement “a lack of LOYALTY, something that Texas Voters, and Henry’s daughters, will not like.”
In short, President Trump affirmed that “next time, no more Mr. Nice guy!”
No reports indicate that the President discussed a change in party affiliation with Rep. Cuellar, and in his interview with Bartiromo, Rep. Cuellar referred to himself as "the most, if not the most, bipartisan Democrat," noting that his voting record is "better than some of the Republicans in the Republican Caucus."
