Texas State Rep. Brian Harrison sent a letter to Texas House Speaker Dustin Burrows calling for immediate interim legislative hearings on what he described as urgent threats to Texas's future, including Sharia law, property taxes, and the survival of Christian youth camps.
In the letter, Rep. Harrison argued that Texas is at a critical crossroads and accused the House of failing to act during multiple sessions on issues central to conservative priorities.
"Texas is the line in the sand for the future of our country and the future of Western Civilization," Harrison wrote. "Bold, conservative leadership from the Texas government has never been more necessary."
Harrison pointed to what he described as legislative inaction over the past year, noting that the House did not resolve key issues during three sessions. He renewed his call for a special session but emphasized, at a minimum, that the House should immediately use the interim period to conduct oversight and advance legislation.
"Further delay is not only unacceptable, but tantamount to acquiescence to the radical left," Harrison wrote.

At the forefront of Harrison's requested interim charges is what he called the need to "combat the threat from Sharia law in Texas."
He asserted that, despite public claims, Sharia law has not been banned statewide and urged hearings to examine options such as ending taxpayer funding tied to Sharia, enforcing prohibitions on Sharia courts throughout Texas law, closing statutory loopholes, and legislatively designating organizations such as CAIR and the Muslim Brotherhood as terrorist organizations.
Harrison also urged lawmakers to establish a path to eliminate property taxes, significantly reduce overall taxation, and require voter approval for any future property tax increases.
Additional requests include halting all taxpayer funding for DEI, LGBTQ programs, and what he described as "liberal Hollywood," repealing sending increases from prior budgets, banning taxpayer-funded lobbying, and ending corporate welfare.
A significant focus of the letter was on protecting Christian camps and other youth camps. Harrison warned that legislation passed under the banner of flood relief could force widespread closures.
"Since enacting this big government takeover, my office has been notified that potentially hundreds of Christian camps will have to close this year, and can't wait until the 90th session for solutions," he wrote.
Harrison closed the letter by formally requesting that Speaker Burrows assign these issues as interim charges and convene immediate hearings.
