U.S. Senator Ted Cruz (R), a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, praised the Trump administration following its announcement designating branches of the Muslim Brotherhood Operating in Lebanon, Egypt, and Jordan.

Sen. Crus said the action reflects a sustained effort by President Donald Trump and his administration to confront Islamist extremist networks through a deliberate, branch-by-branch strategy.

That approach, he noted, was first outlined in an executive order issued last year and is now being implemented through targeted designations.

"President Trump and Trump administration officials are systematically targeting the Muslim Brotherhood and its branches, including through President Trump's Executive Order last year and by implementing the strategy for designations laid out in that order," said Sen. Cruz. "These measures were advanced despite overwhelming resistance, lobbying, and obstruction from supporters of the Muslim Brotherhood abroad and from career bureaucrats across the U.S. government."

Cruz emphasized the national security implications of designations, arguing they are essential to protecting Americans from extremist threats linked to the Brotherhood's global network.

"These steps are critical to the national security of the United States and to protecting Americans from the jihadist terrorism promoted by the Brotherhood," said Cruz.

He added that the administration's "bottom-up strategy of designating individutal muslim Brotherhood branches" is an effective way to counter the organization's international reach.

The Texas senator also highlighted his longstanding legislative efforts to formally designate the Muslim Brotherhood as a terrorist organization. Cruz authored the Muslim Brotherhood Terrorist Designation Act of 2025, which incorporates the same designation strategy now being carried out by the administration.

Cruz continues to urge Senate leadership to move quickly on the bill, noting that it currently has bipartisan backing. He has introduced versions of the Muslim Brotherhood Designation Act multiple times since 2015, signaling what he describes as a consistent effort to align U.S. law with national security priorities aimed at countering extremist organizations.
