Popular House Freedom Caucus member, Rep. Chip Roy (R) has staved off a spirited campaign effort by State Senator Mayes Middleton and forced a run-off election.

Rep. Roy, who recently called for an immigration freeze,  garnered a disappointing 31.6 percent second place finish, but because Sen. Middleton couldn't reach the necessary 50 percent threshold to avoid a run-off election scheduled for May 26, Roy will live to fight another day.

Throughout the night, it appeared as if Roy could lose outright, but the race tightened up at the very end
