Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) and state Senator Mayes Middleton (R-TX) failed to gain the necessary 50 percent threshold to avoid a GOP runoff election for Texas attorney general earlier this month, and Aaron Reitz has just thrown his support behind the latter.
Reitz, a former Department of Justice lawyer who also ran for Texas attorney general, was booted from the race earlier this month.
With a runoff election scheduled for May 26, Reitz is now calling on Texas voters to elect state Senator Middleton.
In a statement, Reitz commented that the next Texas attorney general should meet three qualities.

“First, he must be a staunch and loyal ally to President Trump. Second, he must carry forward the fighting legacy of Attorney General Paxton. And third, he must recognize that we are in a real war for the soul of our state and nation,” he explained.
For Reitz, state Senator Middleton embodies the qualities.
Reitz pointed out that state Senator Middleton has routinely supported the president, noting that “Trump described Mayes as a ‘very effective leader’ and said his ‘voting record on Conservative issues is second to none.’” He went on to point out that Rep. Roy has criticized the president, noting that he “described Trump as ‘wrong, troubling, and impeachable’ in 2021.”
In his endorsement, Reitz highlighted state Senator Middleton’s public service record, emphasizing that “he has the mind, heart, and willpower to keep his foot on the gas after Paxton leaves office.”
As well, Reitz praised the state senator as someone who “understands we’re in a real war with the radical Left and has led accordingly,” highlighting efforts like “kicking biological males out of female athletics and private spaces, stripping poisonous food and drink from welfare benefits, blocking hostile foreign nations from buying Texas land, reinforcing election-integrity laws, and equipping law enforcement with tools to secure the border.”
Ahead of the primary, outgoing Attorney General Ken Paxton endorsed Reitz for the job, and he has yet to make an endorsement for the runoff. Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) has instead endorsed Rep. Roy for the AG position.
President Donald Trump has not formally announced an endorsement.
