U.S. Representative Chip Roy (R) is calling for prayers and support following a deadly shooting at a Hill Country high school that has shaken the Bulverde and Comal County communities.

In a statement, Roy extended condolences to those affected and praised law enforcement for their response.

"Rep. Roy extends his deepest condolences and prayers to the Hill Country College Prep community following today's senseless act of violence," his office announced. "Rep. Roy's office has been in contact with the Comal County Sheriff's Office and local law enforcement and commends their swift and decisive response to secure the campus and protect students and staff."

The incident occured Monday, March 30, at  Hill Country Preparatory High School in Bulverde, Texas. Authorities say a 15-year-old student shot a female teacher before turning the gun on himself.

The student later died at the scene, according to officials. The condition of the teacher has not been fully detailed as of the latest updates.

During a press conference, Mark Reynolds, the Comal County Sheriff, said investigators are working to determine the relationship between the student and teacher, including whether the student was enrolled in her class.

Law enforcement confirmed that the situation was contained quickly, and the campus was secured.

Roy's office said it will continue monitoring developments and stands ready to assist if needed. He also urged Texans to support those affected.

"[Rep. Roy] asks that all Texans join him in lifting up the entire Bulverde/Spring Branch and Comal County communities in their prayers during this difficult time," the statement urged.

The tragedy marks another devastating moment for a Texas school community, as investigators work to understand what led to the shooting and local leaders call for unity and support in its aftermath.

Rep. Chip Roy is the only Texas lawmaker who has currently responded to the incident.
