Governor Greg Abbott (R) and the Texas Veterans Commission (TVC) announced that more than $40.8 million in Fund for Veterans' Assistance (FVA) grants will be distributed to organizations across Texas to provide critical services for veterans, their families, and surviving spouses.
The grants, approved by TVC commissioners last week, will fund 190 grants awarded to 160 nonprofit organizations and local government agencies throughout the state. According to state officials, the funding is expected to benefit more than 125,000 veterans and family members during the 2026-2026 grant cycle.
"Texas is proud to provide crucial services to support the brave men and women who selflessly served our nation in uniform," said Gov. Abbott. "Through this, more than $40 million in state grants, we strengthen services for Texas veterans, their families, and surviving spouses, while we empower local organizations to provide critical care and support across our great state."
The Veterans Commission Chairwoman and Navy veteran Laura Koerner highlighted the broad impact the grants will have on veteran communities statewide.
"The impact of these grants is tremendous," said Koerner. "Tens of thousands of veterans and their families across Texas receive vital services and assistance from these organizations. These grants support a range of services, from clinical counseling to housing and financial assistance to legal aid."
Since the creation of the Fund for Veterans' Assistance Program in 2009, Texas has awarded more than $400 million through 1,790 grants to organizations serving veterans and military families across the state.
Funding for the grants is generated primarily through Texas Lottery games designated to support veterans.
