Reps. Chip Roy (R) and Keith Self (R) renewed calls to end birthright citizenship and crack down on birth tourism following the Supreme Court's recent birthright citizenship ruling, arguing Congress must act to protect U.S. sovereignty and codify President Donald Trump's border policies.
Rep. Roy took to social media platform X to criticize the Supreme Court's recent ruling on birthright citizenship, arguing the decision creates additional incentives for illegal immigration and reinforces the need for congressional action.
Roy warned that failing to protect American citizenship threatens the country's future.
Rep. Chip Roy: "If we allow our sovereignty and citizenship to be trampled, we will lose our country. No self-respecting nation would allow this to continue."

Rep. Self argued the ruling increases the urgency of passing legislation that would permanently codify President Donald Trump's border security policies.
Rep. Keith Self: "The Supreme Court's devastating birthright citizenship decision creates a massive incentive for illegal immigration."

Rep. Self also called for ending birthright citizenship and cracking down on what he described as the exploitation of U.S. immigration laws through birth tourism and foreign surrogacy.
Rep. Self continued: "We must shut down the exploitative birth tourism and foreign surrogacy industry. It preys on American women while foreign nationals game our citizenship laws to gain benefits for their children. This was never the Framers' intent."
Following the Supreme Court's birthright citizenship ruling, both Roy and Self are urging Congress to pass legislation that would redefine the constitutional phrase "subject to the jurisdiction thereof," permanently strengthen border security measures, and end what they describe as the exploitation of U.S. citizenship laws through birth tourism.
