Who was confirmed?

The U.S. Senate voted to confirm John George Edward (John G.E.) Marck and Arthur Roberts "Rob" Jones to serve as the United States District Judges for the Southern District of Texas - McAllen Division.

Both nominees were recommended to President Donald Trump by Senators John Cornyn and Ted Cruz following a bipartisan review conducted by the Federal Judicial Evaluation Committee (FJEC), which evaluates candidates for federal judicial vacancies in Texas.

What Cornyn is saying

Following the confirmation votes, Senator John Cornyn praised both judges' backgrounds in federal law enforcement and criminal prosecution.

Sen. John Cornyn: "John Marck and Rob Jones have distinguished records of holding dangerous criminals accountable and enforcing the laws on the books to keep Americans safe and our southern border secure."

Cornyn also highlighted his role in recommending both nominees to President Trump.

Sen. Cornyn continued: "I was proud to recommend these astute Texans to President Trump, and I look forward to seeing them serve on the federal bench."

John Marck's background

Marck began his legal career as an Assistant District Attorney in New York City, prosecuting major felony cases including murder, manslaughter, robbery, and gang assault.

He later joined the U.S. Department of Justice as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in South Texas, where he prosecuted cases involving:

  • Illegal reentry after deportation.
  • Alien smuggling
  • Drug trafficking.
  • Cartel-related crimes.

Rob Jones' background

Jones began serving as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in Laredo in 2002, handling a wide range of border-related criminal cases.

He later worked with the Organized Crime and Drug Enforcement Task Forces and served as a deputy chief of the National Security and Public Corruption Section before becoming Executive Assistant U.S. Attorney.
