ENGIE has signed a 48 MWac solar power purchase agreement with QTS to supply renewable energy to its data center operations in Irving, expanding renewable energy procurement for Texas' growing data center industry.
ENGIE announced a 48 MWac solar power purchase agreement with QTS to provide energy to the company's data center operations in Irving, Texas.
The agreement was signed alongside a separate long-term PPA between ENGIE and ABEI Energy, securing renewable power from the Lubio Solar project in Kaufman County. The deals expand ENGIE's renewable energy presence in the ERCOT market while continuing its longstanding partnership with QTS.
QTS Vice President of Energy and Sustainability Travis Wright: 'This project is a meaningful step forward in our renewable energy strategy, supporting long-term sustainability and operational resilience of our Texas footprint."
Lubio Solar is an approximately 61 MWac solar project developed by ABEI Energy in Kaufman County. Once operational, the project is expected to generate about 150 GWh of clean electricity annually.
The project is also expected to avoid approximately 100,778 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions each year.
The transaction marks ABEI Energy's first renewable energy deal with ENGIE in the United States, building on an existing partnership between companies in Europe.
As data centers expand across Texas and the country, demand for reliable electricity and renewable energy is increasing. ENGIE said the agreement demonstrates its ability to combine renewable generation, retail electricity supply and energy management to meet the needs of large energy customers.
Regional vice president of Key Accounts at ENGIE North America Taymur Bunkheila: "Data center customers continue to seek long-term, dependable renewable energy solutions that align with both operational and sustainability goals."
The agreement adds to ENGIE's growing portfolio of corporate renewable energy contracts as data centers continue to drive electricity demand across the ERCOT market.
