Fugitive Apprehension Unit Reports More Than 18,000 Arrests

Attorney General Ken Paxton's (R) office says its Fugitive Apprehension Unit has made 18,291 arrests since its creation, including 68 people on the Texas Department of Public Safety's Top 10 Most Wanted List.

How many arrests has the Fugitive Apprehension Unit made?

AG Paxton announced October 6 that the Office of the Attorney General's Fugitive Apprehension Unit has made 18,291 arrests since the division was established.

According to Paxton's office, the unit's arrests include 68 people on the Texas Department of Public Safety's Top 10 Most Wanted List. Investigators have also recovered 186 missing and endangered children across Texas.

AG Ken Paxton: "Throughout my time as Attorney General, I have fought to find and arrest dangerous fugitives that threaten our communities. This has included putting thousands of Fugitives behind bars."

What has Paxton's office reported in child exploitation cases?

The Attorney General's Child Exploitation Unit has made 278 arrests for online solicitation of a minor, resulting in 214 convictions, according to the office. The unit has also made 610 arrests for possession of child pornography and reports 1,410 convictions, with many cases still pending.

The office's Human Trafficking Unit has made 373 arrests for human trafficking and secured 126 convictions, with several cases still pending.

Paxton said his office has continued to target child exploitation and human trafficking through specialized investigative units.

What did Paxton say about the units' work?

AG Ken Paxton: "Additionally, we have secured hundreds of convictions and arrests within my units that are dedicated to combating child exploitation and human trafficking."

AG Paxton continued: "I have done everything in my power and will continue to fight relentlessly to protect the children of this state and put dangerous criminals behind bars."

The Attorney General's Office identifies the Fugitive Apprehension Unit as part of its Criminal Investigations Division, which works to locate and apprehend fugitives connected to violent crimes and sexual offenses.
