Last week, President Donald Trump made his way over to the Lone Star State to support several Republican candidates on the ballot this November, including Senate nominee Ken Paxton (R-TX).

During the campaign stop at the Peterbilt Motors Company plant in Denton, Texas, Trump joked that Paxton was a “pain in the a--” and “a little controversial.” Paxton now sits about three points behind opponent James Talarico (D-TX) in polling.

“When I was being hit by the radical left very hard — harder than very few people could have withstood it, I was being hit — Ken Paxton was at my side more than anybody,” Trump said. “And I have to always remember that because he could be a pain in the a‑‑ sometimes, I’ll be honest.”

These remarks come after a leaked audio file revealed Paxton claiming Trump’s Republican National Committee midterm convention in Dallas, Texas, early this month hurt his and other Republican nominees’ numbers.

“We’re going to send Ken Paxton to the United States Senate because he is — whether you love him or don’t love him — he’s a little controversial, just slightly,” Trump said. “But whether you love him or not, he’s probably the best or certainly one of the best attorneys general in the country.”

Trump also addressed Talarico, calling him a vegan “freak” who would hurt the state if elected.

“Texas represents so much,” Trump said. “It would be such a horror to put a guy, a freak like that in there would be such a horror to your state and such a horror to the country.”

So far, Trump’s Super PAC MAGA Inc. has invested $20 million backing Paxton for the Senate seat.

“The guy is the greatest attorney general in the United States of America,” Trump said. “We gotta get this guy elected.”
