Ted Cruz Urges Republicans to Rebuild After 'Blue Tsunami'

Senator Ted Cruz (R) is sounding the alarm after Democrats swept the 2026 midterm elections, calling the results a "blue tsunami" and a "Watergate-level repudiation" of Republicans in a post-election post on X.

Republicans lost control of both chambers of Congress and every statewide race in Texas, Sen. Cruz noted, describing the results as a political disaster that should force the party to confront why voters abandoned GOP candidates.

"Texas is blue. That is a hard sentence to utter," said Sen. Cruz, acknowledging the historic shift in a state that has not elected a Democratic governor since 1994 or a Democratic senator since 1993.

Cruz argued the defeat was not primarily a turnout problem. Instead, he said Republicans, Independents, and Libertarians showed up but voted Democratic, pointing to losses in traditionally Republican states including Kansas, Iowa, North Carolina, and South Carolina.

The senator identified affordability as a major factor behind the backlash, arguing Republican leaders failed to recognize voters' struggles with groceries, fuel, insurance, and electricity bills. He cited rising household debt, home repossessions, and hardship withdrawals from retirement accounts as signs of economic distress.

"Food is too high, gas is too high, diesel is too high, insurance is too high. Life is too high," said Cruz.

He also blamed GOP losses on weakened support among blue-collar workers, young voters, Hispanic voters, farmers and rural communities, saying Republicans must rebuild their coalition around policies that directly improve Americans' lives.

Cruz said he plans to work with Democrats on issues such as Hill County flood relief while fighting policies he believes threaten Texas businesses, energy production and constitutional rights.

Despite the losses, Cruz expressed confidence Republicans could regain ground, calling for a return to free-market conservatism and a stronger focus on working-class voters.

"Texas is still Texas," said Cruz, predicting Republicans would eventually bring the state back.
