As the U.S. continues to reopen after the history shutdown caused by the spread of the COVID-19 virus, Democrats and the media are trying to capitalize on the economic downturn caused by the global pandemic.

Texas Senatorial candidate and decorated veteran MJ Hegar, has joined the ranks of incumbent and congressional Democrats who are trying to place the currently economic woes of the country on the laps of Republicans, including her opponent Sen. John Cornyn (R).

“While the rich get richer, too many families are struggling to put food on the table. It doesn't have to be this way — but #CorporateCornyn was more focused on protecting the profits of negligent corporations than getting aid to families that needed it,” tweeted Hegar in reaction to a POLITICO story about the economy.

“The growing divide could also have damaging implications for President Donald Trump's reelection bid. Economic downturns historically have been harmful if not fatal for incumbent presidents, and Trump's base of working-class, blue-collar voters in the Midwest are among the demographics hurting the most. The White House has worked to highlight a rapid economic recovery as a primary reason to reelect the president, but his support on the issue is slipping: Nearly 3 in 5 people say the economy is on the wrong track, a recent Reuters/Ipsos poll found.

Democrats are now seizing on what they see as an opportunity to hit the president on what had been one of his strongest reelection arguments.”- POLITICO

"The economic inequities that began before the downturn have only worsened under this failed presidency," Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden said Friday. "No one thought they'd lose their job for good or see small businesses shut down en masse. But that kind of recovery requires leadership — leadership we didn't have, and still don't have."

Hegar, like most candidates vying to defeat a popular incumbent legislator, is using any and all campaign tactics to ensure a win in November, even if it means exploiting her military service for political gain.

The decorated combat helicopter pilot is referencing her past service, injury, and military awards every time Sen. Cornyn acknowledges U.S. servicemen and women, as well as to disparage President Trump over the allegation that he called veterans “suckers” and “losers.”

Trump has denounced the media reports that he made those disparaging remarks, but that isn’t enough for Hegar, who continues to criticize Cornyn for not standing up to Trump a denounce him for making those alleged remarks about veterans.

Cornyn may not have much to worry about, even as Hegar continues to prosecute her Progressive campaign against him.

The latest average of polls has him leading Hegar by 9 percentage points.
