Rep. Lizzie Fletcher (D) won her 2018 congressional race by running as a moderate Democrat, but since assuming office in 2019, Rep. Fletcher’s voting record tells a different story about where her political ideology could lie, and that has pressed another staunchly Conservative Republican candidate to challenger her seat.

Small business owner and consultant, Roland Lopez, has decided to challenge Rep. Lizzie Fletcher in the 2022 midterm elections, picking up where former Republican congressional nominee and combat veteran Wesley Hunt left off.

Rep. Fletcher narrowly defeated Hunt in the former legacy Republican congressional district by 3 percentage points, and Lopez was quick to point that out to Texas Politics during a recent sit-down interview.

“I looked at where our country is going. It’s a gradual decline. It’s Saul Alinsky, it’s the naked communism of where our country is going,” said Lopez, adding, “America is on a path of no return.”

In speaking about Rep. Lizzie Fletcher, Lopez called her a “Nancy Pelosi rubber stamp” that is part of “the Green plan” that every House Democrat, including Fletcher.

The bill Lopez was referring to was the “INVEST Act in America” (HR 3684)  or how he called it, the “Drive America out of the free market capital Act.”  Rep. Troy Nehls (R) recently labeled the bill “The Green New Deal.”

Lopez also called Fletcher “a place holder to duplicate an extra vote for the Democrat Party,” and according to her voting record, he may have a point.

According to ProPublica, “an independent, nonprofit newsroom that produces investigative journalism,” Fletcher has voted with Speaker Nancy Pelosi a whopping 99 percent of the time, and. 91-92 percent of the time with all four members of the Progressive “Squad” led by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D).

After the January 6 riot that left three dead and dozens of Capitol police wounded, Fletcher firmly blamed former President Donald Trump for the security breach and subsequent riot.

“It is now clear that the President of the United States represents a grave threat to our Constitution and to our country. He has willfully incited violence against the Government of the United States,” Fletcher wrote. “It is for these reasons that I support his removal from office as soon as possible, whether through the process set forth in the 25th Amendment to the Constitution or through the constitutional process of impeachment.”

With the Republican Party poised to win back the House of Representatives in the 2022 midterm elections, all eyes are on Texas as the Lone Star state has garnered two new congressional seats, and as many as six could flip after the ballot dust settles on election night.

Texas 7th congressional district will be in play, again.
