Texas Representative Veronica Escobar (D) shared her support for a revised version of existing legislation known as the National Defense Authorization Act of 2024.

The James M. Inhofe National Defense Authorization Act is a United States federal law that specifies the budget, expenditures and policies of the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) for fiscal year 2024.

In a tweet, Rep. Escobar expressed her desire to work with fellow politicians to pass an updated version of the National Defense Authorization Act. However, the Texas lawmaker will have to work with members outside of her party to get true bipartisan policies that benefit Americans in effect.

“This morning, @HASCDemocrats began consideration of the #FY24NDAA. I look forward to working with my colleagues to pass a National Defense Authorization Act that reflects our nation’s values and supports our servicemembers, @FortBlissTexas, and El Paso.”

The Texas representative provided updates throughout the meeting. These updates included several measures to prevent sexual misconduct.

“ADOPTED: To ensure our servicemembers are receiving the support they need and deserve, we’ve included my amendment to require an assessment of current National Guard protocols and practices regarding reporting and adjudication of sexual assault and harassment claims.”

“ADOPTED: we’ve included my amendment that requests a report on DoD adoption support services for military families.”

Funding is a major part of the bill, and many of the amendments addressed the allocation of funds.

“ADOPTED: To benefit key Army units like those at Ft. Bliss, we’ve included my amendment to support the Army Vantage Program which empowers commanders to assess the requirements of their units, and preserves the ability of the Army to use their funds where they need it most.”

In other news, Texas Representative Wesley Hunt (R) took to Twitter to challenge the Biden Administration's handling of China regarding Taiwanese independence.

“The Biden Administration often talks about democracy, but when a democratic country really needs us Biden runs for the hills. No one is weaker on China than Joe Biden,” said Rep. Hunt.

The Texas lawmaker's concerns with the Biden Administration's possible hypocrisy add to a conversation about how the administration should deal with China.
