Texas Representatives Joaquin Castro (D) and Greg Casar (D) announced a new amendment to block federal funding for Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s (R) Operation Lone Star.

In a tweet, Rep. Casar detailed the “inhumane” tactics the governor has used to deter migrants at the U.S.-Mexico border.

“NEW: @JoaquinCastroTX & I are introducing an amendment to block federal funding for Greg Abbott’s abusive & inhumane Operation Lone Star. Not one federal cent should go toward caging families, cutting innocent people with razor wire, or drowning children.”

“Greg Abbott’s abusive, wasteful, and inhumane Operation Lone Star is a disgrace to our state,” said Rep. Casar.

Casar stated that the governor’s actions were a violation of the rights of various groups.

“Every day, Abbott violates the rights of asylum seekers, immigrant families, and our border communities, all to score political points against President Biden. Not one federal cent should go toward caging families, cutting innocent people with razor wire, or drowning children. Period. We need to address the humanitarian crisis at our border head on, and chart a new path for a safe, orderly, and humane immigration system.”

Rep. Castro claimed that Gov. Abbott had misappropriated funds in order to fund Operation Lone Star.

“Since 2021, Governor Abbott has stolen more than a billion dollars in federal COVID-19 aid and diverted hundreds of millions in state taxpayer dollars from critical public health and safety programs to fund Operation Lone Star,” said Rep. Castro.

“Operation Lone Star is trampling on the rights of border communities, endangering our economic relationship with Mexico, and violating the basic human rights of asylum-seekers. Congress should not be funding Governor Abbott’s wasteful political stunts.”

In other news, President Joe Biden (D) awarded the Medal of Honor to Vietnam War Army veteran Larry Taylor.

The Medal of Honor is an esteemed U.S. military award given to soldiers for distinguishing themselves through an act of valor.

Taylor was an Army first lieutenant and Cobra helicopter pilot. In his flying of hundreds of missions, he saved several lives.
